The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) program supports high-achieving foreign students who want to pursue master’s or doctorate studies in Ireland. The program, sponsored by the Irish government and administered in partnership with Irish colleges, is overseen by the Higher Education Authority. The plan includes the awarding of sixty full-time master’s or doctorate scholarships each year. Participants in the program may pursue any subject of study.
Benefits
- The Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship provides a stipend of €10,000 for one year of master’s or doctorate studies.
- The beneficiaries’ host higher education institutions must waive all costs for the award year. It is envisaged that successful scholars will begin their studies in September or October 2024.
Requirements
- Candidates for a Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship must be from countries other than the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the European Union, or the European Economic Area.
- Candidates must apply for admission to a master’s or doctorate program in accordance with the admissions regulations of their respective higher education institutions.
- When submitting an application, the applicant must provide a copy of the conditional or final offer of admission to the higher education institution.
- The offer letter must state that the student, an international fee-paying student, has been extended an offer of enrollment in a full-time program.

How to apply for Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES)
- Prospective candidates should carefully analyze the call documentation to determine whether they are qualified to apply.
- Please keep in mind that this is only an example of an application form.
- Applications must be submitted using the online portal.
- All submissions must include two references that are uploaded using the online portal.
- It is recommended that applicants submit their applications well in advance of the deadline to avoid technical issues caused by excessive server traffic on that day. Submissions made after the deadline will not be accepted.
- Once an application is filed, it cannot be altered.
Applicants are required to demonstrate:
- To be eligible for an International Education Scholarship from the Government of Ireland, applicants must demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, exceptional communication skills, involvement in extracurricular activities like politics, humanitarian service, arts, or sports, and a compelling justification for studying in Ireland to advance their long-term goals.
The applications will be received first by the appropriate higher education institutions, which will then examine them for eligibility and shortlist candidates based on how well they align with institutional strategic objectives.
