Description
Change lives by doing ground-breaking research on the meanings of home for Indigenous children living in the state (out-of-home care) with the help of a three-year PhD research grant funded by Flinders University.
A home-centred strategy to support children and young people in state care, the Linkage project is financed by ARC and is affiliated with this scholarship. Professor Kristin Natalie is in charge of this study, which is being carried out in collaboration with Anglicare SA, Life Without Barriers, and the Department for Child Protection.
To better understand and respond to the needs of young people in state care, a project called “home-centred approach to support children and young people in state care” seeks to explore how conceptions of home may help. For the first time, a home-centred approach to assisting young people in a variety of care situations will be developed, and it anticipates producing unique data on the home for children in state care.

To research how Indigenous children and young people perceive and experience home while in state care, they are looking for an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant. The chosen applicant will establish the project’s focus, objectives, and results with assistance from the project team.

Eligibility
The following requirements must be met by applicants:
They must be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent; they must identify as Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders; they must also be recognized as such by the community in which they currently reside or have previously lived; and they must meet the requirements for admission to the PhD program at Flinders University, which include having an Australian Honours degree Class 1 or 2A or an equivalent degree (at least AQF Level 8), or providing proof of an equivalent research experience
Requirements of Award
- Academic success or experience in research
- Ability to collaborate with local organizations
- Expertise in conducting qualitative research with children and adolescents
- A track record of success working with Indigenous study participants
Conditions of Award Scholarship
Candidates must begin their studies as soon as it is practical within the timeframe established by the Office of Graduate Research after consultation.
