The Gates Cambridge Scholarships 2024 session is an excellent opportunity for students with exceptional intellect who wish to continue their professional studies.
The initiative was launched in the fall of 2000 when an act of parliament and the Melinda Gates Foundation made a US$210 million grant to the University of Cambridge, the largest donation ever given to a UK university.
Every year, Gates Cambridge offers approximately 80 fully-funded scholarships. The program is open to up to 90 students who intend to pursue a permanent postgraduate PhD and Master’s degree in either of the University of Cambridge’s majors.

The Gates Master’s Scholarship has a maximum duration of two years, and the Gates Ph.D. Scholarship has a maximum duration of four years.

The Gates Cambridge fellowship will cover all expenses for international students attending Cambridge University. The scholarship goes above and beyond by providing students with a discretionary fund. Here are some of the costs that the school is responsible for financing.
- Tuition Fees for the Entire University
- Maintenance Allowance: At the current rate, each student receives PS17,500 for 12 months. The prize is valid for up to four years for PhD students.
- A round-trip Economy Air ticket for the course’s beginning and end.
- It also covers the expenses of inbound visas and the Immigration Health Surcharge.
- The award provides funding for academic advancement. The funds range from PS500 to PS2,000 depending on the length of the course.
- Participating in conferences and classes.
- The family may also be eligible for allowances of up to PS10,120 for the first child, which may be enhanced to PS4,320 for the second child. (There are no finances available for the parent.)
- Assistance in the event of an emergency
- (Depending on acceptance) funding for paternity or maternal care
Gates Cambridge Scholarships Duration
Through this program, you can apply for scholarships for both a PhD and a master’s degree; however, the length of time for each will vary.
The award could extend anywhere from 3 to 7 years for Ph. D degrees. Students who apply for a master’s degree may be awarded a one- or two-year scholarship. Scholarships are only available to full-time students under this program. This option is not available to students who work part-time or want to pursue an award.
